Westin Finds Travelers Prefer Sleep to Sex

Despite ubiquitous hotel packages designed to inspire romance and the hotly-debated (in geeky travel circles, at least) open bathroom trend hitting hotels around the world, the majority of today’s travelers would opt for a good night’s sleep over a roll in the hay, finds a new study from Westin Hotels and the National Sleep Foundation.

Despite ubiquitous packages designed to inspire romance and the hotly-debated (in geeky circles, at least) open bathroom trend hitting hotels around the world, the majority of today’s travelers would opt for a good night’s sleep over a roll in the hay, finds a new study from Westin Hotels and the Sleep Foundation.

As part of a media blitz celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Heavenly Bed, the study is the second such study from Westin. The first appeared when the brand’s signature beds debuted a decade ago.

Among the study findings:

- 51 percent of frequent travelers in the U.S. said they would rather have a good night’s sleep than great sex, up from 31 percent who chose sleep 10 years ago

- Surprisingly enough, men were more likely than women to prefer sleep to sex

- 57 percent of travelers said they have a better sleep experience while snoozing in beds than in their beds at home

- Two-thirds of those surveyed reported being kept awake at night by their PDAs

- 42 percent of sleep-deprived frequent travelers said they would rather find a complimentary sleeping pill waiting on their room pillow instead of chocolate

If all the talk about beds is making you sleepy, Westin has some deals running right now that may very well help keep your eyes open. Westin Hotels is currently offering a free night when you stay three or more nights at any of its hotels and 50 percent off a second night when you pay the regular rate for the first.
