Glad my article is stimulating debate, now to get some facts straight
Seeing as I wrote the piece, I should probably get involved in the debate. Gary has the right attitude and can see into the future. Sadly many people in our industry are stigmatising Chinese. The inflow of low cost sightseeing tours from PRC in recent years has not helped this image but it is not a true reflection of the ability and willingness of many more Chinese to visit Western destinations.
I suggest to anyone interested to know more about this market to start with the China Outbound Travel Handbook google it which is free.
If you ask SE Asian countries which is the most important market for them now, they will say CHINA. Evidence – the millions that Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia spend on promotion in China.
